August Bug Accelerator 2026

Now that we're in first month of the second round of the BAP, we've been getting settled into our new rhythm, figuring out our direction for this round of the program, and helping Martin (@doctormo) get the new renderer in shape.

As of the end of last month, we said goodbye to one of our developers, Seán de Búrca (@leftmostcat), leaving Mike to carry things alone for some time until we could get confirmation of the vote to bring in another developer to the program. As of (date), we welcomed Tav (@tavmjong), after the vote to bring him on as our second developer successfully passed.

As for what we've been up to, Mike has been working tirelessly alongside Martin to refine the merge request that will ultimately become Inkscape's new renderer, bringing much awaited colorspace support (including native CMYK), better handling of image formats and bit depths (through the use of Glycin), and other improvements both under the hood and in user-facing features.

Simultaneously, both Mike and Tav have continued landing critical fixes and improvements across multiple areas, such as the Unified Font Browser (which will be default in 1.5, no longer experimental), Page handling, and others.

Volunteer + Community Contributions

Another bit of exciting news this month, is that we've been able to recruit some help from the community in knocking more 1.5 bugs off the board. While not officially part of the BAP, I'd still like to highlight the work of our volunteer contributors and even those who just help to confirm fixes (and bugs alike). Your work helps us to make Inkscape 1.5 even stronger.
